ISLAM IN RUSSIAN SOCIO-POLITICAL LIFE

27-58 742
Abstract

The given study is focused on the history of the tradition of translations of the Qur’an into Spanish during the period of XV–XX centuries in the context of the process of acknowledgement and construction of the inclusive pluri- religious and pluri- lingual identity of the Spanish people. The examination of the evolution of this phenomenon during this historical period has shown that it can be divided into four major stages. The early stage (XV–XVII centuries) is characterized by positive trends, while in the following period (XVII–XIX centuries) the tradition was interrupted by the expulsion of Spanish Muslims from the areas of their historical residency. The tradition of translations was reborn in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, in the context of the renaissance of the Muslim community in Spain. As a result of these processes, today, in the twenty- first century, the tradition of translation of the Qur’an into Spanish constitutes an integral part of the spiritual life of Spain, strongly contributing to a successful and genuine inter- religious dialogue and cooperation.

Abstract

The article analyzes the transformation of the policy of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in India towards religious minorities. The evolution of the attitude of Hindu nationalists towards Muslims is investigated — from denying the right of Muslim political representation to the intention to demonstrate the multiconfessional nature BJP. Special attention is given to the motives that induce a significant minority of Muslims to vote for the party, many of whose leaders at various times were noted for Islamophobic statements. The case of cooperation between BJP and Indian Shi‘a community is being considered separately. The final part of the article is devoted to the situation after 2014 Indian general election. There is a number of issues that directly affect the interests of the Muslim community and require a reaction from Muslims within BJP — the abolition of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 and the decision on the Ayodhya dispute. The conclusion is dedicated to the prospects of the relations between Indian Muslims and the ruling party.

Abstract

The paper deals with the interpretation of the Qur’anic verse 21 of surah Al-Ahzab, which represents the key point of controversies between Qur’an-focused and hadith- focused theologians. Hadithocentric theologians constantly use this Qur’anic ayah, in order to justify Sunnah as the second source of the Muslim law and doctrine. The goal of paper is, first, to examine theological interpretations, presented in the main corpse of Sunnite tafsirs; second, to reconstruct as true as possible the understanding of these verses in the context of the classical Sunnite tradition. The opinions of early Islamic interpreters and Hanafite authors are considered in separate way.

Abstract

The article deals with Islamic Neomodernism («Progressive Islam», «Liberal Islam»), a modern current of Islamic thought that combines the ideas of classical tradition and modern Islamic studies. The article notes that Neomodernism is gradually transforming from a living thought into an ideological construct with its dogmas and non-refl exive propositions. Its weak aspects include: 1) insuffi cient attention to the peculiarities of the situation of modernity; 2) lack of comprehension of the relation between the ethical and the legal; 3) lack of a theory of the ethical; 4) insuffi cient attention to the procedure of thematization of values; 5) lack of an institutionalization strategy. The purpose of this article is to provide a productive critique of neomodernism and to pave the way for its further development.

Abstract

This article contains an analysis of the idea of intention in the philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein. It evaluates capabilities of his conception in the development of Ethics in the «Islamic context». Author shows that Wittgenstein’s conception reveals a remarkable similarity to the fundamental assumption of Islamic Ethics, that is to «direct connection (bind, cohesion, connectedness) between intention and action». It is shown that an adequate understanding of this connection requires consideration of the Wittgensteinian idea of internal relations. It is proved that intention is not a manifestation of a «soul substance», «perception» or «feeling». Interpretation of «intention» provides additional refinement while defining specific intention ad hoc. In conclusion author puts forward a hypothesis asserting utility of late Wittgenstein’s conception in the development of Islamic ethical theory.
